Abstract: Nurses are the largest professional group in healthcare and play a central role in ensuring quality and safety of care. Yet, their profession remains undervalued worldwide, reflected in workforce shortages, poor working conditions, limited decision-making power, and persistent gendered and racialized stereotypes. In Belgium, these challenges threaten healthcare system sustainability.&#xD;
&#xD;
This thesis explores how Social Economy Enterprises (SEEs) can enhance the value of nursing, using a qualitative case study in Wallonia. Value is defined as both tangible (remuneration, working conditions, career opportunities) and intangible (recognition, autonomy, professional image, social usefulness). SEEs, characterized by democratic governance, participatory decision-making, and a strong social mission, may create conditions that improve nurses’ experiences of autonomy, recognition, and meaningful work.&#xD;
&#xD;
Based on semi-structured interviews with nurses and managers, findings show that SEEs foster participation, supportive leadership, and a sense of professional legitimacy, while limitations remain in financial capacity and career progression. Overall, SEEs offer promising pathways to enhance nursing’s professional value and suggest practical implications for healthcare policy and management.</description>

Abstract: This thesis explores the question: How can consumers be encouraged to sustainably choose independent organic stores over large-scale retailers? In a context marked by growing environmental concerns but also by economic constraints, understanding the drivers and barriers to organic food consumption is crucial for the resilience of small independent shops.&#xD;
The research builds on a literature review addressing consumer behaviour in the organic sector, as well as a market study conducted by Al’Binète, a network of independent organic stores in Wallonia. To complement these insights, twenty-five semi-structured interviews were conducted with consumers shopping in both organic stores and supermarkets, along with interviews with two store managers.&#xD;
The results reveal that consumers’ choices are shaped by a delicate balance between values, convenience, and financial considerations. Price remains the main barrier, particularly in times of inflation, but other factors such as product availability, variety, and symbolic barriers (perceptions of exclusivity or high cost) also play a role. Independent organic stores, however, benefit from strong differentiating assets: the human connection with staff and producers, the local embeddedness, and the potential to create meaningful shopping experiences. Store managers also highlight their role as educators and community actors, going beyond the transactional dimension of retail.&#xD;
The discussion shows that the long-term competitiveness of independent organic stores cannot rely on price competition with supermarkets. Instead, it lies in reinforcing their identity and distinctiveness: building trust, fostering transparency, reducing symbolic barriers, and turning the store into a space of connection and coherence between values and practices.&#xD;
Although exploratory and limited to a specific context, this research provides practical recommendations for independent organic retailers and opens perspectives for further studies, particularly on non-organic consumers and comparative approaches across regions.</description>

      <description>Title: Integrating environmental sustainability and change management into responsible digital transformation by means of a qualitative expert interview study
Abstract: This thesis examines how environmental sustainability and socially responsible change management can be integrated into digital transformation (DT), advancing the concept of environmentally and socially responsible digital transformation (ESR-DT). It reframes DT as a strategic challenge that calls for balancing economic viability, environmental sustainability and social responsibility, amid rising policy and stakeholder expectations. Expanding digital footprints, growing volumes of e-waste and persistent rebound effects heighten the pressure on organisations to comply, maintain legitimacy and remain competitive—making responsible DT indispensable.&#xD;
Methodologically, the study combines three pillars: a literature review, fifteen semi-structured interviews with practitioners from consulting, industry, public institutions and academia conducted between May and July 2025, and an integrative analytical framework that structures analysis across technological, environmental and social dimensions.&#xD;
The findings suggest that DT is most effective when it is purpose-driven, strategically aligned and deliberately planned, rather than being technology-led. In terms of technology, organisations benefit from clear problem definition, realistic scope and phased delivery that links digital initiatives to business objectives. In terms of the environment, DT should be aligned with planetary boundaries by embedding ecological criteria from the outset, combining Green IT/IS with value-based approaches such as digital sufficiency and sobriety. In the social dimension, change management is essential. Early and genuine participation, supportive leadership and cultural integration foster adoption, safeguard legitimacy and ensure sustainable outcomes.&#xD;
Overall, this thesis demonstrates that ESR-DT is a strategic capability, not an add-on. Integrating technological, environmental and social logics into a single decision-making framework improves adoption, reduces unintended ecological impacts and strengthens legitimacy. Three cross-cutting enablers — needs orientation, deliberate planning and continuous awareness — offer a pragmatic basis for embedding responsibility into everyday governance and metrics. Organisations that cultivate this capability are better positioned to create durable value and resilience in a rapidly evolving context.

Abstract: This thesis explores how ethical leadership is perceived and enacted by leaders in sustainability-driven organizations to promote employees’ pro-environmental behaviors (PEB). Based in an interpretivist paradigm, the study adopts a qualitative, inductive approach based on semi-structured interviews with ethical leaders from socially and environmentally committed organizations in Belgium. Thematic analysis revealed four key themes: the importance of value alignment, the role of ethical role modeling, organizational enablers and barriers, and the practical implications. Findings highlight how ethical leaders actively shape organizational norms and inspire ecological responsibility through trust, coherence, and example. This research contributes to the understanding of leadership as a relational and moral process in the promotion of environmental sustainability in the workplace.</description>
