Résumé
[en] As the transportation of people and merchandises grows, the transport-related air pollution increases. This air pollution provokes many adverse impacts; in particular, health impacts. There is an urge for more environmentally friendly urban mobility solutions. As a matter of fact, many countries in Europe have started to implement LEZs within their cities. This urban access regulation – which aims at reducing pollutant emissions by prohibiting the most pollutant vehicles to enter a delimitated zone – becomes a widespread solution in order to improve the air quality level in large urban areas with a high density of population.
The aim of this thesis is therefore the analysis of the implementation of a Low Emission Zone within the city of Liege (Belgium). The recommended policy instruments and delimitation zone for a LEZ in Liege will be based on the analysis of the current European LEZs’ practices. The study will also provide an overview of the current LEZs situation in Europe and will capture the pros and cons of the introduction of this new regulatory tool.
