Mêlant fiction et expérience personnelle, l'auteur aborde la contradiction que représente l'insertion au marché global, pour l'artisanat des communautés autochtones du sud de la Colombie. Un marché qui leur a causé beaucoup de problèmes en termes de dépouillement mais qui, en même temps, se pose comme bienfaiteur, comme voie de progrès pour ces communautés. Ce récit a pour but de positionner le travail manuel des Inga de la Vallée du Sibundoy et des Pastos de la région du Cumbal, dans la chaîne du marché global.
