Abstract

At the crossroads between the medical and psychological disciplines, it is bariatric surgery that we have decided to study. In order to offer a relevant sociological perspective on this subject, we have drawn on various fields of sociology, ranging from food to deviance. We wanted to propose an analysis that would go beyond the obvious by considering these operations not as the end of the deviant career of individuals in a situation of obesity but as the entry into a new deviance. Moreover, it seemed to us to be essential to embed this research in the present time. To do this, we will provide a development taking into account the racial factor as well as the gender factor.
