Abstract

Regionalism in Latin America is a complex, tricky and unstable phenomenon that involves multiple variables. The specific characteristics of Latin American regional organizations make impossible the comparation of the region coordination bodies with the ones of other regions, for instance the European ones. The Latin American idisioncrasies and the governmental national priorities are in the root of the possible explanations of the current Latin American regionalism. However, several scholars have started to analyze the behaviour of State actors when they try to achieve a certain degree of regional coordination. The first element to study has been the previous experiences that can give some clues about the practices and strategies of State actors in regional coordination contexts.
