Climate Change in James Bradley's Clade and Amitav Ghosh's The Great Derangement: Climate Change and the Unthinkable

Abstract

Climate change is a complex topic and this explains the difficulty that people encounter when trying to address it, whether in literature or in other contexts. The analysis of Ghosh’s theoretical statements and assumptions in the light of Clade brings to light interesting aspects of global warming including some of the difficulties that the novel as a genre can face when tackling this theme. Moreover, this dissertation shows the interesting ways in which Bradley’s novel succeeds in responding to these challenges.
