Résumé
[en] This thesis examines the factors that have influenced the evolution of Danish defense policy and its relationship with NATO and the European Union (EU) from 1945 to 2023. It explores the dynamics of international cooperation, the post-war period, and the origins and evolution of NATO. The thesis analyzes Denmark's alliance with NATO, its active internationalism, and its involvement in Nordic cooperation. Additionally, it investigates Denmark's relationship with the EU, including negotiating sovereignty and integration through the Maastricht Treaty and the Edinburgh Agreement. The study considers the impact of evolving international security landscapes and the implications of opt-outs in shaping Danish defense priorities. The Ukrainian Crisis of 2022 is examined as a catalyst for reevaluating Danish defense policy and the significance of the CSDP opt-out referendum outcome. Through comprehensive research methods, including interviews and literature review, this thesis provides insights into the complexities of Danish defense policy and its evolution in response to changing geopolitical circumstances within its own historical narrative.
