Abstract

[en] This work helps to explain the roles of genes (LDHA, DRD4, F-Ker, MSTN, mtDNA CRY1, CASK, CKM and gender) in the racing pigeon and to investigate their links with sports performance.

By gathering current scientific knowledge, it has been shown that the genes DRD4, LDHA, and F-KER, have beneficial effects on sports performance. The CRY1 gene is also believed to have a beneficial influence on athletic performance, but further scientific evidence is needed to confirm this.
In contrast, mtDNAs do not influence athletic performance. It has also been shown that gender does not affect sports performance even if this answer remains controversial among scientific articles.
Concerning the CASK and CKM genes, it is still essential to conduct scientific studies to conclude their potential influence on the sporting performance of racing pigeons.
