Abstract

[en] The care of young seals admitted to rehabilitation centres is based on a variety of protocols, influenced both by the available scientific knowledge and by the constraints specific to each facility, as well as by staff experience. This final-year project aims to compare the feeding protocols applied to young seals in different European rehabilitation centres.
An online questionnaire, written in English, was distributed to European rehabilitation centres in order to collect information on their feeding practices, infrastructure and organisational structure. Responses were collected anonymously and analysed descriptively. A review of the scientific literature was also conducted to assess the level of available evidence and to identify potential knowledge gaps.
This work highlights both commonalities and divergences in feeding practices. It also identifies areas in which additional scientific data would be needed, thereby opening perspectives for future research.
