Étude exploratoire du vécu psychique des personnes transgenres après un traitement médical d'affirmation de genre

Abstract

Ce mémoire explore le vécu psychique de personnes transgenres ayant eu recours à une transition médicale d’affirmation de genre. Il s’intéresse plus particulièrement au regard que les participants portent rétrospectivement sur leur parcours, leur désir de transition et les transformations corporelles traversées. À partir d’une démarche qualitative exploratoire, huit entretiens individuels ont été analysés selon une approche clinique et mis en lien avec la passation d’un TAT, mobilisé comme support complémentaire à la compréhension du matériel.

Les résultats mettent en évidence la singularité des trajectoires de transition, ainsi que la complexité des remaniements psychiques qui les accompagnent. Le désir de transition apparaît comme un processus pouvant se construire progressivement, parfois à partir d’un point d’appui symbolique ou relationnel rendant cette possibilité psychiquement accessible. Les transformations corporelles semblent pouvoir soutenir un sentiment d’accord entre le corps et l’identité vécue, tout en engageant des tensions, des réorganisations subjectives et des enjeux de reconnaissance.

Cette recherche souligne ainsi l’importance d’appréhender la transition médicale non seulement comme un parcours médical, mais comme une expérience subjective complexe, engageant le corps, l’identité, le rapport à soi et le regard de l’autre.

This thesis explores the psychological experience of transgender people who have undergone gender-affirming medical treatment. More specifically, it examines the retrospective perspective participants have on their transition journey, their desire to transition, and the bodily transformations they experienced. Based on an exploratory qualitative approach, eight individual interviews were analysed through a clinical lens and linked with the administration of the TAT, which was used as a complementary tool to support the understanding of the clinical material.

The results highlight the singularity of transition trajectories, as well as the complexity of the psychological reworkings that may accompany them. The desire to transition appears as a process that can be gradually constructed, sometimes through a symbolic or relational point of support that makes this possibility psychologically accessible. Bodily transformations may support a sense of alignment between the body and the experienced identity, while also involving tensions, subjective reorganisations, and issues of recognition.

This research therefore underlines the importance of understanding gender-affirming medical transition not only as a medical pathway, but also as a complex subjective experience involving the body, identity, the relationship to oneself, and the gaze of others.
