Abstract

[en] This thesis explores how BPMN modelling can help structure a BIM process in an architecture office. BIM is often associated with a digital model. However, it also concerns the management of information, versions, validations and exchanges between project actors. Based on this observation, the research question is: how can BPMN modelling of the observed process on the SLGH project identify the limits of a document-centred workflow and propose an alternative workflow adapted to an architecture office?
The study focuses on the SLGH project, located in Grâce-Hollogne. It consists of six social housing units built with a prefabricated timber structure and developed by UMAN. The case is relevant because an Archicad model existed, but it was not used as a shared collaborative BIM reference. Exchanges were mainly organised through PDF files, DWG files, e-mails, meetings and site reports.
The methodology is based on a qualitative case study and BPMN modelling. It makes it possible to analyse the actors, exchanges, decisions, validations and correction loops. The analysis highlights several weaknesses: scattered information, versions that are difficult to identify, sometimes implicit validations and incomplete monitoring of open issues. These limits are important in a prefabricated project, where some information must be stabilised before fabrication.
This work thesis shows that it is not necessary to impose a complete BIM process to improve the workflow. A progressive structuring can already improve the readability of the project. The proposed target process is based on a simplified CDE, a mini-BEP, naming rules, document statuses and the monitoring of open issues. It aims to make information clearer, decisions more traceable and exchanges easier to control.
