Abstract
[en] This Thesis Project delivers a complete digital laboratory platform dedicated to sus-
tainable development education. The work therefore proposes a hybrid environment that
mixes structured e-learning content, guided experiments, and formative assessments in-
side a single application that can be deployed on the web, desktop, or mobile devices.
Each laboratory aggregates narrative content, multimedia explanations, quizzes and ex-
plorations so that learners can connect theoretical concepts with measurable phenomena
linked to real consumption scenarios.
To guarantee reliability and maintainability, the solution adopts a Go backend expos-
ing a REST API that orchestrates every domain concept—users, laboratories, progress
tracking, experiments, and digital assets—on top of PostgreSQL. Dedicated handlers man-
age authentication flows, CRUD operations on labs, ingestion of multimedia, quiz scoring,
and advanced features such as PDF-to-module conversion, which allows teachers to con-
vert existing pedagogical material into interactive courses within minutes.
On the client side, a Flutter application structured around the MVVM pattern delivers
a modern, reusable component library. Learners browse ‘LabCard‘ widgets summarizing
each experiment, dive into detail pages that track progression, and unlock e-learning,
experimentation, and quiz modules that synchronize with the backend in real time. The
UI also embeds tooling for teachers and researchers: an ApiService gateway centralizes
HTTP calls, while dedicated controllers manage state, offline resilience, and user feedback.
A notable differentiator is the integration of Shelly IoT energy meters directly into the
learning journey. Students can launch a measurement session, stream live voltage, current,
power, and cumulative energy values, log the readings in the database, and export them
to CSV to support reports or peer discussions—bridging physical instrumentation with
remote digital pedagogy.
The project also charts a clear roadmap that includes responsiveness improvements,
richer access control (student/teacher/admin roles), gamification and analytics dash-
boards. Combined with caching layers, JWT/OAuth-based authentication, and observ-
ability tooling, these enhancements will sustain the platform as the catalog of laboratories
and user base grow. Overall, the work demonstrates how a carefully engineered stack—Go,
PostgreSQL, Flutter, Docker, and connected IoT sensors—can turn sustainability princi-
ples into tangible, data-backed learning experiences that remain accessible, scalable, and
engaging for diverse cohorts of learners.
