Abstract

[en] This thesis explores the experiences and business trajectories of migrant shop owners in selected commercial areas of Liège. Based on qualitative interviews with nine first-generation migrant entrepreneurs and field observations, it examines how migration trajectories, entrepreneurial strategies and processes of embeddedness shape their businesses and everyday experiences. Using the mixed embeddedness approach, the study highlights the diversity of pathways into entrepreneurship and the importance of family, social relations, clientele and the local urban environment. It also considers how entrepreneurs navigate a changing city marked by economic pressures and recent urban transformations, including the Liège tramway.
