Abstract
[en] Paroxysmal dyskinesias are a group of movement disorders characterized by episodes of sudden involuntary movements without loss of consciousness. In humans, this set of pathologies has been well studied. A classification has been established and several etiologies have already been discovered. In veterinary medicine however, this disease remains poorly known and is therefore under-diagnosed. The diagnose of canine paroxysmal dyskinesia is indeed complicated because of the wide breeds varying range of clinical presentation and etiology, which is often unknown. First, this review shows what is known about this set of pathologies in human medicine and, then, in veterinary medicine by detailing the specific characteristics of the breeds known to be affected. Finally, a few cases treated at the University of Liège are reviewed to show the link between theory and practice.
