Abstract

Au travers de rencontres ethnographiques avec dix propriétaires de serpents et/ou de lézards, ce travail tente de donner un aperçu des implications engendrées par la possession de ces reptiles. Les thèmes principaux concernent les motivations d’une telle adoption, l’impact de celle-ci sur la définition de l’identité des personnes et la question des différents statuts attribués à ces animaux.

Through ethnographical encounters with ten owners of snakes and/or lizards, this work attempts to give an overview of the implications resulting from possessing these reptiles. The main topics are the motivations in adopting such animals, the impact of the adoption in the definition of people’s identity and the question of the different statuses given to these animals.
