Abstract

[en] Gastrointestinal parasites in horses are responsible for many lesions and colic which can lead to death. Large strongyles, small strongyles, gastrophiles, pinworms, this work aims to review all of them. Diagnostic procedures are essential in order to establish prevention and adequate parasite treatment. In this TFE the practical part highlights the diagnostic procedures applied during autopsies on several horses found dead. The type of macroscopic and histopathological lesions prompted us to investigate two types of parasites, large strongyles and small strongyles.
After the faecal flotation tests, counting and egg’s identification, morphological identification of the worms collected, PCR and DNA sequencing, the parasites identified are those belonging to the cyathostomins family.
