Abstract
[en] Circular Economy (CE) is gaining steam beyond its current focus on products and companies. The construction business is catching up with it paying close attention to i) the circularity of its buildings and relatively recently to ii) the development of new urban districts.
As the CE urban district development consultant role is not defined in the literature that has been reviewed, this thesis focuses on defining it describing their major responsibilities.
The various classifications of currently used CE objectives are inspired by Sustainable Development (SD) classifications and therefore not specific enough to CE. Taking its root in the CE direction “inscribe material and energy flows in closed cycles” five circular economy cycles are defined. The goals defined for each cycle are the fruits of literature research, an international new urban design development competition that the author was involved in, and environmental certifications studies. The five inherent-CE cycles categorization along with their straight to the point goals are summarized in an easy-to-use checklist.
Finally, the material of this thesis could be useful to the CE consultant to use as specific CE training material for urban planners and developers.
