Résumé
[en] This research study deals with the question whether Bitcoin can compete the current payment systems, especially in the case of Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises.
The aim of this thesis is to provide a comprehensive analysis of the current payment systems and Bitcoin open source technology at the point of sale. The work sets the hypothesis that there is potential for Bitcoin’s integration in high volume and low value trading SMEs especially in cross-border regions.
The answer to this question will lead us towards a better evaluation of the Bitcoin’s integration feasibility in these segments.
The required analysis to obtain these results involves a detailed research about the functioning of the two different electronic payment systems on the one hand and a market survey on a sample of SMEs in the RECA and retail trade sector in the German-speaking community of Belgium on the other hand.
