Abstract
[en] This thesis aims to analyze the process of integration in the Western Balkans into the EU, focusing on our study case, Albania. The region of the Western Balkans has faced two important challenges, such as the fall of the communist regime and the violent disintegration of the former Yugoslavia.
The Western Balkans has made progress on its path towards EU integration, but this progress has been slow due to the many challenges that this region and the EU have faced in recent years.
The purpose of this work is to analyze the factors that have impacted the process of Albania's integration into the EU. The thesis concludes that the integration process has been influenced by internal factors such as political polarization, the existence of phenomena such as corruption, "state capture" and a fragile economy. And from external factors related to the enlargement policy, which is considered a successful policy, but in recent years there has been a slowdown in this process due to the growth of Euroscepticism, the lack of unanimity in decision-making and the enlargement in the Western Balkans have not been important part of the EU agenda.
