Abstract
[en] This research explores the interplay between sustainability and business resilience in the context of Belgian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Adopting a case study analysis, the study elucidates how evolving to sustainable business models affects an organization's resilience, emphasizing both positive influences and potential challenges. The findings highlight that sustainability can significantly enhance resilience by promoting long-term strategic planning, fostering strong stakeholder relationships, and emphasizing operational adaptability and innovation. However, it can also present challenges, such as conflicts between short-term survival and long-term sustainability goals and higher costs associated with sustainable practices. Despite these challenges, the research reveals that sustainability can serve as a source of resilience, offering long-term competitiveness and a strategic advantage. This work contributes to existing literature by providing nuanced insights into the sustainability-resilience relationship, offering valuable implications for both practice and policy.
