Abstract
[en] The present report is based on an innovation project proposed internally at SONACA to analyse drone market opportunities and identify possible relevant applications within the range of SONACA expertise, competences and interests. The objective of this work is to show whether commercial and technical benefits can be gained by moving towards this type of technology and, if applicable, to target the niche which seems the most promising to address and exploit.
The first part of this report concentrates on depicting a general overview of the different types of drones and their existing applications. For each of these applications, an estimate of the current & future associated market volume is provided. Based on this data, the segments showing the highest potential are compared. A selection is then made on the most relevant application to address for SONACA.
The second part of this report further develops the analysis and the study of the selected application. The corresponding market opportunity for SONACA is then identified and the technical proposition is confronted to the market needs and to the opinions of some of its stakeholders. Finally, a business model is proposed based on the outcome of all preliminary investigations to come up with a viable and profitable way forward.
