Abstract
[en] The collection "The Thing around Your Neck" by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explores the experiences of young women of colour feeling a sense of displacement, either in Nigeria or in the United States. This work centres around exploring how expectations help understanding the characters better. The five selected short stories in this dissertation were: "The Arrangers of Marriage", "Imitation", "On Monday of Last Week", "A Private Experience" and "The Shivering"
[fr] Le recueil "Autour de ton cou" de Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie explore les expériences de jeunes femmes de couleur souffrantes d'un sentiment de déracinement, que ce soit au Nigéria ou aux Etats-Unis. Ce travail se concentre sur l'exploration de l'influence des attentes des personnages et comment elles aident le lecteur à mieux comprendre les personnages. Les cinq nouvelles sélectionnées pour ce travail sont: "The Arrangers of Marriage", "Imitation", "On Monday of Last Week", "A Private Experience" et "The Shivering".
