Abstract

[en] The thesis focuses on the analysis of the bidding process for Heritage glass in the restoration
market of listed buildings, with a case study on the company Sprimoglass. The main objective of this
Master Thesis is to understand and document the specific bidding process for Heritage glass from the
creation of the specifications to the installation of the glass. This work aims to provide a
comprehensive analysis of the steps involved in the process and the various stakeholders to facilitate
the understanding and efficiency of these procedures for Sprimoglass.
The identified problem is the lack of knowledge within Sprimoglass about the specifics of
Heritage glass and the associated bidding procedures. This is particularly critical because Michel
Quetin, one of the few internal experts, is about to retire, leaving a knowledge gap that could affect
the continuity of Heritage restoration projects. To address this issue, a survey was conducted among
key sector stakeholders, complemented by a review of existing literature on glass and the restoration
of listed buildings. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with professionals such as
architects and project managers to gain detailed insights into the processes and market expectations.
The research revolves around several essential questions: who decides to renovate a listed
building, when and why is a glass replacement decided, what are the stages of a restoration project,
and who are the involved actors and their respective roles. The thesis explores in detail the context of
restoring listed buildings, emphasizing the importance of Heritage conservation and the differences
between restoration and renovation. It is crucial to restore a building while respecting its original
character and improving its functional performance, such as insulation and acoustics.
This thesis provides Sprimoglass with an in-depth and structured understanding of the
bidding process for Heritage glass. It offers recommendations to improve internal training and
optimize the bidding response procedures. By enhancing the knowledge and skills of the sales teams,
Sprimoglass will be able to maintain and strengthen its position in the Heritage restoration market
while ensuring a smooth transition after Michel Quetin’s retirement. This thesis represents a valuable
guide for Sprimoglass, enabling the company to successfully navigate the complexities of public and
private markets related to the restoration of listed buildings while ensuring the preservation of
cultural heritage.
