Abstract

The current model of textile consumption and production, known as “fast-fashion”, is increasingly criticized for its significant environmental impacts (resource consumption, pollution, CO2 emissions, textile waste production, etc.). In response, the circular economy is emerging as a potential solution to combat these impacts. On a European scale, numerous regulations are being put in place in line with this model, proposing action plans and strategies for integrating the circular economy in Europe, particularly for the textile sector. However, the transition from a linear to a circular model raises a number of questions, particularly with regard to implementation. This transition requires preparation, involving a study of the barriers and drivers influencing its implementation. The aim of this research is therefore to identify the main obstacles and drivers to the implementation of circular business models in the textile sector, focusing specifically on the Belgian territory.
