Abstract

[en] Chris Van Dusen’s _Bridgerton_ season 1 has achieved considerable success upon its release and the show has also become popular as an object of study for literary scholars. However, it is arresting that only _Bridgerton_ came under intense scrutiny, whereas it is adapted from a novel written by Julia Quinn, _The Duke and I_. This dissertation aspires to fill this scholarly gap by studying _The Duke and I_ and _Bridgerton_ within the framework of adaptation studies. In order to do so, themes in the novel and its adaptation are discussed via the techniques of close-reading and close-viewing of some passages. The aim is to analyse how _The Duke and I_ has been adapted for the screen, which themes recur in the novel and the TV show, and which choices have been made for the purpose of adaptation.
