Les divinités "Canope" : entre statues, images et contextes

Abstract

Osiris-Canope, que nous appelons divinité "Canope" au sein de ce mémoire, est une image divine qui voit le jour au 1er siècle apr. J.-C. Au cours de cette étude, nous avons cherché à nous détacher de l'approche nominaliste qui a prévalu jusqu'à présent pour comprendre comment les divinités « Canope » ont été crées, comment elles ont été représentées dans la culture visuelle antique, la manière dont elles ont été perçues au fil du temps, la signification qu'elles ont pu véhiculer, les différents contextes dans lesquels elles ont pu évoluer et les différentes pratiques humaines auxquelles elles ont pu être soumises au cours des siècles.

Osiris-Canopus, whom we refer to as ‘Canope’ deity in this thesis, is a divine image that came into being in the first century AD. In the course of this study, we have sought to break away from the nominalistic approach that has prevailed until now in order to understand how the ‘Canope’ deities were created, how they were represented in ancient visual culture, how they were perceived over time, the meanings they may have conveyed, the different contexts in which they may have evolved and the different human practices to which they may have been subjected over the centuries.
