Abstract
[en] The aviation industry is currently facing major environmental challenges and is under increasing pressure to reduce its carbon emissions. While commercial aviation often receives the most attention, smaller aerodromes are also concerned by this transition. In this context, electric aviation is attracting growing interest as a potential solution for making air transport more sustainable.
This report explores the feasibility of introducing electric aircraft at Spa Aerodrome. The objective is to determine whether this transition could be considered an opportunity to develop the energy model and a more sustainable logistic model.
To answer this question, the study combines several approaches. First, a review of the literature was conducted to examine the current state of electric aviation technologies and renewable energy solutions. An analysis of the aerodrome’s existing activities was then carried out, followed by a comparison between conventional and electric aircraft. In addition, interviews with aviation stakeholders provided valuable insights into the opportunities and challenges associated with such a transition.
The results indicate that electric aviation could significantly reduce direct emissions for certain activities, particularly training flights. However, several challenges remain, including aircraft autonomy, charging requirements and investment costs. The study also highlights the potential role of photovoltaic energy in supporting future electricity demand at the aerodrome.
Overall, the findings suggest that the transition to electric aviation at Spa Aerodrome is not only an environmental challenge but also an opportunity to develop a more sustainable and resilient energy model. Although technological and operational limitations still exist, electric aviation appears to be a credible pathway for the future of light aviation.
