Abstract
[en] Although subject to a universal prohibition, incest remains one of the most difficult phenomena to name and document, largely due to the silence surrounding it. This research aims to understand how intrafamilial bonds contribute to the perpetuation of this silence, and how family omertà influences the disclosure process. Fourteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with adults who experienced intrafamilial sexual abuse during childhood, and were then analyzed using an inductive thematic approach. The results show that silence is predominantly achieved without coercion. Secrecy is presented to the child as a bond of exclusivity, and attachment becomes the instrument of silence. The family often holds prior knowledge that remains without consequence, and disclosures made in childhood go unheard. No parental figure disputes the veracity of the facts; rather, denial concerns the act of speaking out itself rather than the truth of what occurred. Furthermore, none of the participants filed a complaint on their own initiative, while the story is pieced together outside the family circle. Finally, when the perpetrator is a minor, disclosure faces an additional obstacle, as it is often perceived as a risk to the perpetrator himself, with the victim finding themselves burdened with a sense of responsibility toward their abuser.
