Création d'une filière de réemploi des matériaux de construction en partenariat par Batigroupe et le Groupe Terre : Business model et étude de faisabilité

Abstract

Nowadays, our linear production system is disturbed by problems such as scarcity of natural resources, rising energy costs, environmental degradation and social imbalances. In many sectors, there is an urgent need to transform this system into new value-creating models based on efficient use of resources. In this context, two Belgian social enterprises, Batigroupe and groupe Terre, have decided to assemble their expertises into a project which aims to create a complete recovery chain from collection to reuse of building materials in Brussels : Batiterre. Batigroupe is a cooperative active in the construction sector in Brussels. Among others activities, the cooperative rules a sustainable building materials outlet. Groupe Terre is a key player in the social economy in the Walloon Region. With more than 50 years of experience, the group is well known for its activities in clothes and cardboard recovery. Together, these two players combine the necessary skills of a building materials recovery chain. This thesis presents the first eight months of the project : the identification of entrepreneurial opportunities and the creation and analysis of a business model. Through a literature search, we underlined the opportunities, as well as the obstacles to the establishment of a such chain. Then, we proposed two business models we tested trough organizational and financial projections. Beyond the technical development of the recovery chain, Batiterre is a change project. This means that the project must correspond to the context in which it operates. Also, the defense of each actor specific interests must be balanced. In order to offer a global understanding of the change process, the thesis has been drafted in the contextualist framework developed by Pettigrew (1987), which illustrates the three key concepts and their interrelation : the content, the context and the processes. Our results have been used to respond to the call for projects “be circular-be Brussels 2017”, an initiative of the Brussels-Capital Region for supporting environment protection and local jobs creation from the viewpoint of the circular economy.
