Abstract

[en] This report aims to immerse the reader in the management of an innovation project, from the early analyses of the problematics to the implementation of the solutions through multiple change management techniques. It also develops the mechanisms of the daily management of a project with the involvement of many stakeholders that have various interests. In fact, the optimization of physical and administrative flows is not just a simple reorganization or an implementation of new management tools. It appeals to an in-depth analysis of the company, its culture and the existing power games in order to facilitate the required change.
The main chapters of this report are based on the evolution of the project and how the recommendations were shaped. The common thread throughout the chapters represents the taken path and will enlighten the reader about how we, the project manager and the company, draw different conclusions and potential solutions. As you will see, it is in close collaboration with Cactus and its stakeholders that the different topics of the innovation project were co-defined and co-developed. Moreover, throughout the chapters you will be able to get a deeper understanding of the structure and the organization but also get to know the importance of the contextual factors that are shaping the activities of the firm. A vital aspect to get a change in motion is to capture the essence and the workings of the informal life inherent to the organization. The company relies on a traditional idea of retailing, where the service to the customers is the centre of the value proposition and therefore, thoughts of changing any aspects of the business reveals to be very reluctant for many individuals. The report will give you insights of different encountered change management obstacles that were dealt with.
Throughout the project, the participant observation methodology was applied and led to an immersion in the daily activities of a major retailer in Luxembourg. Besides the analyses of the context and content of the project as well as the proposed solutions, this report highlights the used methodology in this environment, but also presents relevant techniques to take up any challenges that can be encountered during a change process. Even more important, these pages are reflecting all the implication and motivation that has been injected in this project, in order to ensure the success of the outcomes, for the company and for the project manager.
