Abstract

In recent years, the Belgian healthcare system has changed. Indeed, due to the increasingly ageing population, the shorter lengths of hospital stays and the desire to receive healthcare at home, the work of home nurses is changing. The diversity of healthcare that the nurses have to provide is multiplied and the necessary skills to realise them are more and more exacting.

In a context where the competition is hard, the new regulations imposed by the National Institute for Health and Disability Insurance are restrictive and the tariffs that rarely fit with the field reality, the profitability of the nursing home care services is a difficult goal to reach.

Therefore, the project-thesis has been realised in a research environment for the break-event point of the Croix Jaune et Blanche Liège-Huy-Waremme. The aim of this non-profit organisation is to find the good balance between the quality of care and the profitability, in order to ensure its viability. For that reason, the project-thesis has the objective to help this company to find solutions against this lack of profitability and to give some recommendations.

For that, two different types of dashboards have been realised and implemented in the non-profit organisation. The first one enables the Head Nurses to better manage the profitability of the various care rounds. The second one concerns the absenteeism and allows the company to detect the workers who can engender a waste of money inherent to their numerous absences.

In addition, the financing of homecare nursing services has been analysed. Thanks to a comparison with the field reality, the underfunding of the nurse care has been highlighted. Indeed, the human factors present in this type of services is not enough taken into account…
