Abstract
[en] Every year, the number of people affected by respiratory diseases such as COPD and asthma is increasing. Hopefully, treatments such as dry powder inhalers are available to manage their symptoms. Nowadays, the challenge is to improve drug flowability in pulmonary airways to enhance its efficacy. One way to achieve it consists in shrinking the aerodynamic diameter of particles by decreasing their density. This paper presents a successful technique using polystyrene beads as a porogen template to prepare porous particles of mannitol as excipients and enhance their delivery of the active pharmaceutical ingredient in the deepest part of patients’ airways.
