Abstract

[en] TECforLime is a new company created in 2018. TECforLime is dealing with international projects, for which the company has to transport equipment, metallic structures and refractory materials. These goods are purchased from suppliers, based mainly in Europe and Asia, and have to be transported until customer’s location. Indeed, TECforLime is dealing with 3 current projets, in Kazakhstan, Senegal and Bulgaria. As the company focuses on its core business and is beginner in terms of logistics, TECforLime has outsourced its logistics tasks to external companies. However, TFL has questions about this logistics and would like to be more aware about “How to optimize the logistic system of its projets ?”.
This project thesis has been developed in order to answer that questions and to support TECforLime’s needs. TECforLime, despite its growing activities, had difficulties gathering all the data needed to efficiently carry out its logistics. For this reason, a work has been done in this project thesis in order to have a better visualization of the whole logistics involved, especially for the Kazakhstan project.
After that, a study has been carried out about the booming Eurasian railway network. Indeed, TECforLime had questions about it. The Eurasian railway network has experienced a huge development after the start of the Belt & Road Initiative. For this reason, a literature review has been completed about this Initiative launched by the Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Then, an investigation from logistics experts has been carried out, in order to have practical data about that Eurasian railway network, and how it could fit with the TECforLime’s projects.
After this investigation, further analyses have been done. First, a comparison between the efficiency of the Eurasian railway network and the one of the sea transportation between Asia and Europe, based on criteria’s like price, speed, frequency, reliability, environmental impact, … Then, a SWOT analysis highlighting the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of the Eurasian railway network from a TECforLime’s point of view.
Finally, some recommendations have been done in order to enable the company to choose the right logistics strategy in the future.
