Abstract
[fr] Healthcare institutions are part of a constantly changing environment, whether it is the constant improvement of the care and services offered, new regulations or the role of the patient who, as a client, is becoming more and more important in his or her care programme.
Qualities such as efficiency, rigour and effectiveness are necessary for the smooth operation of a hospital. As we have seen over the last few months with the COVID-19 pandemic, the qualities listed above allow for better and more efficient patient care.
Accreditation is an external evaluation tool, which allows hospitals to assess their skills and the quality of the services offered thanks to a series of concrete standards well defined in accreditation reference frames. These standards are aimed at health care institutions for continuous improvement.
This thesis provides us more information about hospital accreditation in Belgium. Thanks to the theoretical part, we are able to discover the importance of accreditation; the context in which we find ourselves in Belgium, and more precisely in Wallonia, and the positive and negative impact that accreditation has for the health care organisation, the staff who work there and the patients who stay there. Finally, thanks to the scientific review and feedback from several hospitals in the region, we have been able to identify certain factors favouring the effective implementation of ACI accreditation, which can be applied to St. Nikolaus Hospital in Eupen.
The second part of this document is devoted to the practical approach of preparing for Accreditation Canada at St. Nikolaus Hospital in Eupen. For this preparation we have developed different tools, in order to clarify the current situation and to identify the blocking factors and shortcomings of the organization. We then present an action plan, which includes all corrective measures to ensure that the institution complies 100% with the ROPs for ACI accreditation.
