Abstract

[en] The Service d'Entraide Familiale, also known as SEF, is a non profit organisation operating in Huy, in Belgium. They have an accreditation from Wallonia as "Maison d'accueil", which means they provide homeless people with rooms and social support at low prices.
To help out these people, they receive and use several resources, mainly: donation, public subsidies, and market resources coming from their second hand shops. However, they highly depend on subsidies which consist in the main part of their resources. Moreover, their sales activities are almost entirely performed by volunteers.
Therefore the SEF has the project of developing its activities in order to be more independent.
This work is exploring different ways of development for the non profit organisation. These recommended solutions are going from improvement and evolution of the current market activities of the SEF to the creation of a new activity.
After the SEF has chosen the activity which they want to put into practice, it is developed further based on field practices and theory. The costs and profits, monetary as well as social, of launching such an activity will be shown and the steps that should be taken by the SEF to achieve it will be explained.
The proposed solutions are aimed to improve the (financial) sustainability of the SEF but also take into account their social mission.
