Abstract
[en] This research introduces in broad lines the concept of “domestic violence,” its definitions and manifestations. In order to describe the impact of domestic violence on a larger scale, an overview of the current situation in Eastern Europe is provided. Moreover, a link between the post-Soviet countries and the Russian Federation is established. Further, the author attempts to identify the causes that contributed to the enhancement and perpetuation of domestic violence in Russia. A research addressing the representation of this issue in various fields is initiated in order to explore the origins and impact of domestic abuse on all the spheres of life in Russia. . Another important aspect analyzed in this dissertation is the struggle of Russian women for emancipation. The second main part of this dissertation is dedicated to the law decriminalizing domestic violence in Russia and to its immediate effects. This dissertation is completed with a description of the impact of the decriminalization of domestic violence on social media and a media discourse analysis. In the end, a set of solutions considered useful in order to fight this problem is proposed and evaluated.
