Résumé
[en] Nowadays our society faces many global problems. The consumerist society created a world where malnutrition is everywhere and climate change has more and more impact on the world’s ecosystem. In order to prevent human kind to face irremediable damages, new ways of consumption have to be found. Besides, more and more people seriously consider to change their way of living to reduce their impact on the environment.
Regarding this context, Scientifics consider microalgae as one of the solution for sustainable development and to produce human food in a more responsible way. One of the more popular microalgae is spirulina which can be used as nutritional supplement for human. These blue-green algae are called superfood because its nutrient profile is richer than any other food. It contains many elements such as protein, amino acids, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients … that can benefit human health.
At the moment, sixty tons of spirulina are imported on the Belgian market every year. But it is difficult for Belgian consumers to appreciate the quality of the product and to know where it’s produced. As spirulina can be a real poison if its production does not follow high quality standards, knowing its origin is essential.
This thesis aims to enlighten three project developers about the viability of implementing a Belgian spirulina production.
At first, the spirulina market will be described using tools as Porter’s Five Forces, PESTEL and SWOT analysis. Then, a business model canvas will be created which will lead to define the mission and the vision of the new Belgian spirulina production company.
Afterward, the operational plan and the financial plan will be built. Finally, this thesis will be concluded by the viability and profitability of the project.
